La Superette 2007

Viewmaster Festival

The La Superette 2007 performance series, the Viewmaster Festival, runs from Dec. 13-16. The Viewmaster Festival includes audiovisual performances, installations, and presentations.

Because some of the work is 3 dimensional, both in physical space and 3D video, special Viewmaster glasses will be available for purchase on shopping days, while supplies last, that will both guarantee admission and allow for the complete experience of the festival.

Performances are supported in part by the Experimental Television Center's Presentation Funds. The Experimental Television Center's Presentation Funds program is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and mediaThe Foundation.
Performance Schedule

All performances are 8-10pm, doors at 7:30 for those with Viewmaster glasses.
Each night begins with a short 3D video program including Joe Merrell's Sister Cities and Universal Now as well as special programming by others from the series.

::: Thursday, December 13 :::

Loud Objects
Live soldering on overhead projectors. Hear circuits squeal and watch them smoke
Benton-C Bainbridge + Matty Ostrowski
Gestural glove controlled contoured sound and live video

::: Friday, December 14 :::

MV Carbon + Tony Conrad
With roots in "minimalism" and a more contemporary but equally aggressive practice, violin and cello meet above a unifying drone, to explode the space we normally think of with string quartets, waltz music, and country fiddlin'. Chaotic parameters are bent and rigorously sculpted. Tangles of sound incite a tumbling clash of traditions, reflecting the split personality of today's listeners, who want to discover the thrill of music in a rich sonic imbroglio.
Nautical Almanac
The sounds generated are from machines specifically built for the process or from real lab experience. Custom equipment made of weird alloys of plastic, leather, wire, and rubber. Special set with RGB brain machine generated video.

::: Saturday, December 15 :::

The And Group
Live acoustic guitar processed using real-time video input from the performance space. Audience members become active participants in the creation of the soundscapes, and their collaborative contributions will be projected live for all to see.
Luke Dubois
Taking on topics from American culture and placing them under a computational microscope raises issues relevant to information theory, perception of time, canonicity, and gaze. Laptop performance by a writer of Jitter.
James Rouvelle + John Roach
Trailhead in Manhattan-An excursion to engage your senses of sight, hearing and smell. Transport internally-lit objects and a large sound-sensitive inflated pod to the pond in Central Park. Make noise along the way. Blow horns triumphantly as we launch our items into the murky untouched waters of our metropolitan wilderness! DRESS WARM!

::: Sunday, December 16 :::

Dan Iglesia:
Algorithmic 3D video for humans and computers.
Gerald Marks:
Anaglyph 3-D presentation for the true stereoscopes.
