La Superette 2008

About La Superette

La Superette is an annual event, an art sale held in early December to coincide with the holiday season. We organize a temporary store where artists sell functional and affordable art in multiples. In addition to the sale, musical performances and video screenings run throughout the day, adding to the festive atmosphere.

La Superette is conceived as a place for artists to meet and collaborate on a specific project. Since it's inception in 1998, La Superette has exhibited the work of hundreds of artists and attracted thousands of visitors and shoppers. This year we are producing a full color book which visually chronicles the event's ten year history.

La Superette is organized and produced by Ignivomous, with generous support from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
When & Where

La Superette will take place in early December at a brand new location near the South Street Seaport, in Manhattan. Exact dates and times are still being finalized.
Submission Guidelines

The deadline for online submission is November 10th, 2008
  • Work must be functional, original and cheap: less than $100
(we generally sell a lot of items in the $2-40 range)
  • You may submit more than one product, but products must be genuinely different (i.e. 20 uniquely colored widgets should be submitted as one product, you can mention the unique coloring in the description)
  • You price your own work, and receive 80% of the proceeds from any sale.
  • La Superette is not responsible for damage to or loss of your work.
You are strongly encouraged to attend the event and to help out.
La Superette's success and your enjoyment of the event are both very much tied to your participation. During the event artists can help welcome visitors, re-stock merchandise, wrap gifts, etc. Or get creative and create a role for yourself!

About Lower Manhattan Cultural Council
http://www.lmcc.net

For 35 years, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) has been the leading arts presenter, advocate, and service provider to artists and arts groups throughout Lower Manhattan. LMCC was founded by David Rockefeller and other business and civic leaders in 1973 and was housed in the World Trader Center until 9/11. The Council, which was created shortly after the Twin Towers were built, was established to humanize the architecture of the World Trade Center Plaza.

LMCC grew as downtown grew and today is Manhattan's largest and farthest-reaching arts council, bringing diverse cultural experiences to new audiences in unexpected ways and serving as a gateway to culture, information, and resources across the entire borough.
